Substantive Editing

One of my specialties - and one of my favourite writing projects - is substantive editing. This requires taking an already-written document, in addition to tens of other documents, to build a document that both "looks and sounds pretty" (as one of my previous clients referred to it). Substantive editing focuses on the overall structure, content, and flow of a manuscript and often times includes working one-on-one with the original writer, and/or assessing and extracting information and data from previous documents. It also requires that I ensure that the message the original writer is trying to convey has been done articulately and professionally and meets all the criteria for an easy-to-understand document.

Compare & Contrast

Below, you will be able to see what the original version looked and sounded like versus how the document looks and sounds following my revisions. (Note: Click on the image to open the document)
