A few months after my son was born, Christmas was fast approaching and money was tight. I put an ad in the local classifieds offering writing help to small businesses in my area. I ended up getting contacted by a woman who was looking to write a short biography of her father's life to give as a gift for his 90th birthday. A project that was initially supposed to be pretty short in scope, turned into a full-blown book with interviews, historical research, and transcribing verbal stories. While doing this project, I fell in love with biographical writing; however, it would still be a number of years before genealogy was introduced into my life.

To save time, I'll keep it simple: I have always had a passion for history so when I heard that I might be able to use ancestry.ca to find historical documents for some of my family members I'd never met, I jumped at the chance - and fell head over heels in love with Genealogy.

Since I began my studies at the International Institute for Genealogical Studies, I have practiced my new skills on many occasions. From helping my first client track down 10 generations of ancestors from each of his 4 grandparents to writing monthly articles for the Navan Nugget in which I chose a historical family from my town and broke down their history. I then wrote it all up in storytelling fashion and provided a new perspective on our town's history; the seniors in my town who have been here since childhood were especially fond of my articles.
