One of the first parties I ever decorated for was my cousin's bridal shower. I had just discovered the Buy Nothing groups on Facebook and I was under the impression that I could find whatever I needed, whenever I needed it, as long as I asked nicely. And I have not been wrong to this day.
My cousin was getting married and she had requested a high tea-themed bridal shower. Me, being completely obsessed with all things tea pot and tea cups, I jumped at the chance. We were also lucky in that we were holding it in her mother's backyard which is quite beautiful and the perfect setting for a bridal shower.
So, if you know someone who has a wedding coming up and who has jumped on the high-tea band wagon (I won't take credit for starting this fad, but her wedding was 3 years ago....so.....haha), take a look at some of the beautiful decor and food choices we were able to pull off.
High-Tea-Themed Bridal Shower
The majority of the things we used were things I'd managed to borrow from someone on the Buy Nothing group or was able to find at Value Village. For a high-tea party, there are a few must-haves: adorable tea cups with saucers, gorgeous table linen, silver serving dishes, sugar cubes and tiny sandwiches.
My cousin also loves multi-coloured flowers - he wedding was completely multi-coloured but not in a terrifying way - very tasteful and beautiful. So we bought some flowers that had already been dyed and put them in large vases of water and lemon slices.
I even found some fricken adorable doilies to go underneath all the saucers.
I hand-made these because grocery stores wanted just too much to make simple little sandwiches. They were egg salad, red pepper and hummus, and jam and cream cheese. I found the serving dish for $2.99 at Value Village.
Like, I said, we got lucky the party was in my aunt's backyard, because she just so happened to have an antique buffet on her deck. So we lined it was linen, and displayed all the yummy food. Veggies, salad, finger sandwiches, and English biscuits complete with jam and whipped butter. My cousin is also a huge candy fiend, so we included licorice, Swedish raspberries, and more.
We had another smaller table for the appetizers, which consisted of a cheese tray, cold tea, sangria (I mean, is it really an outdoor party without sangria?), and crackers with Epicure's famous 7 cheese dip.
I mean - isn't it gorgeous?!
And to top it all off, one of my cousin's friends made this insanely adorable, yet elegant, tea cup cake. It just finished it all off perfectly.
As you can see, this was super inexpensive to do and really very fun. I also had help from my other cousin (the bride's sister) and everyone chipped in to help find some of the decor and make the cake. It was an awesome afternoon and was followed up by a beautiful wedding!
